Our new Senator David J. Shafer has started off running,
thats for sure. Georgia Conservation Voters gave him their second
annual Environmental Leadership Award at a ceremony at the Carter
Presidential Center in May. They cited Shafers proposal to
dedicate the state portion of the real estate property tax for
greenspace acquisition, thereby increasing greenspace without
raising taxes or infringing upon private property rights.
The window of opportunity for allocating our natural
greenspaces is right now, my friends, and I am glad Shafer is on
this. Our landscape will look entirely different in ten years
time, even five. Any way we can preserve the natural environment
that is left to us, we must engage!
Senator Shafer is having a fundraising reception on Monday,
July 1, 2002, at The 1818 Club, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Congressman
Johnny Isakson will be there as special guest. If you would
like to attend, please contact Senator Shafer at
