Congratulations go to Senator
David Shafer
(R-Duluth), who was honored by Georgia Conservation Voters this
month with its Second Annual Environmental Leadership Award.
Georgia Conservation Voters is a nonpartisan political action
committee describing itself as "electoral action arm of the
environmental and conservation movement in Georgia." The group
honored several state legislators at a ceremony at the Carter
Presidential Center. Shafer was the only legislator from Gwinnett
County to receive the award.
Shafer, who won a February special election for the State
Senate campaigning on quality of life issues, has championed a
plan to increase greenspace without raising taxes or infringing on
private property rights. Under his plan, the state portion of the
real estate property tax would be dedicated to greenspace
acquisition.
