David with Georgia Conservation Voters Executive Director Jason Rooks, receiving the GCV's second annual Environmental Leadership Award at a Carter Center ceremony.  David has championed an innovative proposal that preserves greenspace without raising taxes or infringing on private property rights.

David being sworn in as a gubernatorial appointee to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview Committee (MARTOC).  Left to right, Senator Vincent Forte (D-Atlanta), Senator Charles Tanksley (R-Vinings), Senator David Shafer (R-Duluth) and Governor Roy Barnes.  David is one of only two Republicans appointed by the Governor to MARTOC.

David shakes hands with Judge Ray after taking the oath of office. Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor observed that David's swearing in ceremony was "historic" in that it marked the first time a former senator (Judge Ray) had sworn in his successor.
